Spanish holiday destinations

The spectacular capital of Andalusia is all that Andalusia has best: impressive architectural styles, exuberance in the costumes worn by the women for the April Fair, the white, narrow, and cobbled streets of the old quarter of Bario Santa Cruz, the flamenco notes and the smell of the oranges in blossom. You will fall in love with the city after you visit it. Seville is also a city of great importance for the region: it hosts the government of Andalusia, so it stands among the most important cities in Spain.

History of the city

Seville was of great importance for the country from its beginnings. The 16th century caught Seville as being a gateway, a door opened to what then was the Americas. The ships loaded with precious metals, especially silver, used the Guadalquivir River to sail up; the process was an enriching one for Seville. Before being the connection between Spain and the Americas, Seville was of great importance for Spain during the Moorish rule. The Moors saw it as one of the greatest cities that Spain had, so they invested a lot in Seville; fingerprints of their passing are still visible and perhaps one of the most edifying is the Giralda Tower. Another reminiscence of the Muslim conquest is the Cathedral, which has been built on the remains of the Muslim Mosque. Today, the Seville Cathedral occupies the third place in the top of world’s largest Cathedrals; when you visit it, the feeling is that you are an insignificant entity in comparison with its greatness.

Sightseeing in Seville

The Alcazar, which reminds tourists of the spectacular Alhambra, is a very popular sightseeing spot in Seville. The ornaments are very exotic, typical for the beautiful Mudejar style, which combines Christian and Moorish elements. The gardens still wear the pure Moorish style, so make sure that you will take a walk through their alleys. The Maria Luisa Park is a conglomerate of lush gardens which host exotic palm trees, cool patios and fountains, and shaded alleys which are wonderful in the unbearable heat of the summer season.

Entertainment

Seville is very famous for hosting two important fiestas: the April Fair and the processions throughout the Holy Week. The April Fair is full of color, good mood and music, while the processions inspire everyone who participates, because the feeling you get when you see the members of the no less than 59 brotherhoods of the city carrying religious figures is awe-inspiring.
