A spectacular city

It’s natural that everyone associates the architectural style of Barcelona with Antoni Gaudi, but in fact the city has more to offer than just Gaudi. It is a place of wonder, a true Gothic jewel. The Gothic architecture is what inspired the entire work of Gaudi and the work of all the other Modernists of the 19th and 20th centuries. The Catalan Gothic is absolutely overwhelming, as it uses elements and decoration typical for its style. The belle époque of the city began in 1880, the year when the first Modernist elements of the city started to appear. Antoni Gaudi’s work is representative for the style, and his world-renowned work La Sagrada Familia attracts millions of tourists from all over the world even though he couldn’t finish it.

Not all Barcelona’s architectural wonders are old; international architects have fought to keep the spirit alive, even in a modernist way, so the new monuments of Barcelona are very daring, but exceptional in their unique style. Torre Agbar is definitely going to surprise you and impress you at the same time. The tower wears a palette of colors that please the eye and the cucumber shape is very futuristic, but it fits perfectly into the landscape. This is what makes Barcelona so beautiful: the past and the present mingle perfectly. Everywhere you look in Barcelona, in a park, on a modern street or on the pavement of the old, narrow, cobbled streets of the old town, the new succeeded in appearing right next to the old, creating a wonderful atmosphere.
