Spain’s most special natural park has to be the unique Parque Nacional de Ordesa; the Ordesa National Park is full of natural beauty and life. The offering of fauna and flora at this park is amazing with unique characteristics that can be found at no other place in Spain.

Nature’s best

This is the place to be for nature lovers or for those who wish to experience some of nature’s way of life in a secure and unique environment. There are plenty of rich and attractive plants, bushes, trees and living green species of every kind, besides the varied animals that roam the park freely as if they were the visitors. One has to be ready for a good stroll or walk through this park to enjoy all its sights and offerings. For the more adventurous, there are hiking and walking trails that can expend your energies easily while taking in the beautiful flora and fauna.

It is recommended to visit Ordesa’s Parque Nacional from the month of May to the month of November which will ensure that it is open to the public and tourists. It may be closed in the other months for some reason like winter. The summer months bring in the crowd; hence, it would be wise to visit outside of July or August if you prefer to stroll leisurely without the crowd at this amazing park.

Location


Ordesa’s National Park is located very close to 3 valleys that can be found surrounding the park; one of which is Ordesa Valley. It is the best known valley around the vicinity as it has lots of limestone. The Ordesa Valley is easily identifiable with its close proximity to the National park with the forest extending far and wide.

History


This National Park was set up on the Spanish royalty’s request in 1918. Its original intention was to have a place of refuge for the wild goat that is found only in this area, called the ibex. Soon, the park’s intention expanded to protect other species; besides animals, plants were also welcomed to this refuge. Now it boasts of being a guardian to over 170 bird species, 5 types of amphibians, 8 kinds of reptiles and at least 32 mammals.

Spain’s National Park at Ordesa has also proven to be a favorite among tourists who prefer outdoor sports and climbing. This is a famed climbing area; it is also a favorite for those who would love a hike or walk. With many routes available and clearly marked, visitors can enjoy exploring the area on their own leisure, be it town or valley around the region.
